The Remuneration Tribunal of South Australia determine Mayor and Councillor allowances. Section 76 of the Local Government Act required the Tribunal to make a determination on a 4-yearly basis before the day that is 14 days before the day on which nominations close for each periodic election.
The following allowances for City of Playford (Group 1B Council) reflect the determination as of 07 November 2016:
- The annual allowance for a Councillor is $19,449
- The annual allowance for a Councillor who is a Deputy Mayor, Deputy Chairperson or Presiding Member is 1.25 times the annual allowance for Councillors, being $24,312 (pro rata)
- The annual allowance for the Mayor is 4 times the annual allowance for Councillors, being $77,796
