Rural and Multicultural Programs

The Rural Programs for Older People operate from The Virginia Institute in the rural township of Virginia and One Tree Hill Institute in One Tree Hill.

The programs are aimed at older people living in the City of Playford's rural areas of Virginia, Angle Vale and Buckland Park and the District Council of Mallala and the Township of Gawler. The programs provide supported opportunities for  consumersto identify and access services they may need, as well as participate in activities that bring people together.

  • Regional Outings
    • Quarterly bus trips for older people living in the rural areas of One Tree Hill, Angle Vale, Penfield and Waterloo Corner Playford
    • Four outings per year are provided for each of the rural areas listed

  • Italian Group: Casa Aperta Del Nortd – see brochure and below
    • Transport may be organised for older Italian people living in Mallala and Gawler.
    • The Italian program has language and cultural support provided through the Italian Benevolent Foundation.
  • Greek Group: My Greek House – see brochure and below 
    • Transport may be organised for older members of the Greek community living in Mallala and Gawler.
    •  The Greek program has language and cultural support provided through the Greek Orthodox Community
  • Virginia Friendship group – see brochure

    • Tai Chi - see brochure
    • Strength for Life – see brochure
    • Computing for Seniors - Beginners sessions
      • Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10am-2pm bookings are essential
    • Line Dancing – see brochure
    • Podiatary
      • 2nd Tuesday of the month by appointment through Resthaven call 82526811
    • Tool Box woodcraft
      • Friday 10am-2pm
