Healthy living can be easier with the resources and information on offer through City of Playford

Aquadome

The Aquadome is an iconic landmark of the North and was recipient of the 2010 Be Active Recreation and Sport Industry Award for best facility.

The redeveloped Aquadome, situated at Crockerton Road, Elizabeth, was officially opened on July 18 2009 after undergoing a $15.8m refurbishment. The Aquadome's redevelopment was partially funded by the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and the State Office for Recreation and Sport.

The state of the art facility features many 'green' initiatives. Among them, 150m2 of solar panels which generate a massive 15kw of power, the use of aquifer storage recovery (ASR) water for toilet flushing and landscaping and a building management system (BMS) which provides efficient lighting and temperature control.

It provides a variety of recreation and leisure activities and includes an upgraded 50m pool, a 25m and leisure pool with beach entry and water features, new 110m waterslide, spa, steam room, gymnasium, group fitness room, crèche and café.

The Aquadome was designed as a key recreational facility within the City of Playford with the goal to assist in the health and wellbeing of the community through greater participation in physical activity. Since its redevelopment the Aquadome has seen a dramatic increase in participation at the facility including increased family usage (with over 30% of members on a family membership) and a 50% increase in senior programs.

The Aquadome is owned by the City of Playford and is managed under a long-term contract by the YMCA South Australia.

What's new at the Aquadome?

The City of Playford has committed $1.3M to fund a new expanded pool deck and family friendly change room upgrade, due to commence in late Spring 2015.

The new pool deck will incorporate an additional 175 square meters of seating space near the program pool, while the change room will feature nine new change cubicles, three additional toilets, including one for people with a disability and five pool deck showers for rinsing prior to using the change room.

The upgrade will take between three to four months to complete. During this time, the Aquadome will remain open with minimal disruptions, all current programs and services will continue as scheduled and car parking will still be available.

For more information about the upgrade, check out the Fact Sheet.
