Parks, Reserves and Playgrounds

The City has over 1,000 hectares of open space consisting of playground parks, sports reserves and trails through and around suburbs.

Council has some primary parks, which are used for community and cultural events including Carols by Candlelight, community festivals and supporting international sporting events visiting the city including the Tour Down Under.

The parks are well utilised and appreciated by the community gaining high ratings in Council's community surveys.

Council undertakes improvements to new parks generated by subdivisions in consultation with the community. It also works with existing communities to revitalise existing parks.

  • Local Councils and other incorporated bodies can apply to have an outdoor area or event declared smoke-free.
  • The age that a person can be fined for smoking-related offences has been reduced to 15 years.

Fines for smoking in these areas is ($75 expiation fee, maximum fine $200).
