Verges

The Seasonal / Cyclic teams focus on beautification and presentation of the City using a programmed approach and take care of tasks such as tree planting, mowing, street sweeping as well as the general maintenance of ovals and reserves.

A programmed approach is used to manage assets that require specific maintenance schedules based on cycles determined by seasons: climatic or sporting.

Climatic conditions determine tasks such as tree planting, irrigation application and mowing dry land areas. Cyclic maintenance includes mowing irrigated areas, road sweeping and general open space maintenance. When a sporting season changes from a winter sport to summer sport, turf renovations and oval top dressings are addressed.

The Urban Verge program is divided up throughout the City and Township areas to ensure that each section is manageable and completed within given timeframes and serviced the same amount of times.

Street sweepers follow the verge mowing program with the intention of having all grass collected from the road surface by the end of each shift (approximately 9pm).   Under extenuating circumstances (e.g. machinery breakdown / staff resources) the grass is removed within 24 hours which complies with the current EPA requirements.

Footpath blower operators also follow the verge mowing program to blow any grass from the footpath to the roadway for ease of removal by the street sweeper.
