Elizabeth CBD
The City of Playford is reshaping the Elizabeth CBD (between Playford Boulevard and Main North Road, Elizabeth) into a thriving retail, sport, business, community services, function and entertainment precinct where people can stay and play longer in Playford and access the services they need easily.
Revitalising the Elizabeth CBD responds to the needs of our growing community with an average of seven new people moving into our city each day and continuing to do so for the next 20 years in one of South Australia’s fastest growing Council areas. It also responds to what our residents have told us- that they want services, activities and offerings that are close to home.
The CBD precinct is already home to an array of services, offerings and destinations that thousands of people enjoy each week. The Shedley Theatre, Playford Civic Centre, Grenville Hub and library all across from the popular Elizabeth City Centre is creating a corridor of activity. New developments will enhance the existing offerings, providing an even greater range of offerings and activities for our residents and visitors.
Investment on the site commenced in 2017, including the redevelopment of Prince George Plaza, construction of a multi-deck carpark and infrastructure improvements to accommodate future private development at the site.
Other sites throughout the CBD have been flagged for development to build the vision for the Elizabeth CBD.
After an open-market Expressions of Interest process in 2021, in August 2022 Council resolved to accept an offer by Pelligra to purchase and develop two specific sites within the Elizabeth CBD. Information on these developments can be found here.
Council continues discussions with selected preferred partners about other site-specific opportunities within the CBD for private investment. Stringent guidelines are in place to ensure the right mix of quality urban design is delivered, which may include retail, business, professional and entertainment offerings.
