McGilp Recreation Park Upgrade
About this project
An exciting upgrade to the popular McGilp Recreation Park at One Tree Hill is underway, featuring enhanced amenities to improve the athlete and spectator experience at the site.
Council’s transformation of the township’s major sport and recreation facility includes:
- An extension to the oval
- New changeroom facilities
- Resurfacing of the tennis courts
- Formalised parking for easy access
- A new bike track to the informal recreation space
- Improved spectator amenities such as seating
The extension to the oval will allow for both a full-sized senior and a full-sized junior soccer pitch to be accommodated at the site, which means whole-of-club game days can be held at One Tree Hill.
The new changerooms will be available to tennis, cricket and soccer players, and the new bike track will add another recreation opportunity for locals and visitors.
This project was identified in Council’s Open Space Strategy and is jointly funded by the City of Playford and the State Government through the Office for Recreation, Sport & Racing.
Status
Onsite construction at McGilp Recreation park commenced in August 2024.
Your experience during construction
To facilitate this major upgrade, portions of the oval and current parking areas will be unavailable from Monday 26 August 2024 until mid 2025.
The gravel area near the tennis courts, currently used for parking, will also be closed from this date.
Access to a portion of the oval will always be maintained for school and public use. However, the point of access to the oval may change over the course of construction to accommodate different stages of the project.
Vehicle access to the Scout Hall only will be provided, as the scouts will continue to be based at the precinct over the project, however its entry points will change periodically.
Sport clubs impacted by the project have been temporarily relocated from the site.
Access and parking for One Tree Hill Primary School
Understanding that many parents and caregivers currently use the verge area across from the primary school for parking, this will be upgraded into formal parking bays. However, to do this, the area must be completely closed during construction.
One Tree Hill Primary School will pass on updates to parents and caregivers on this and other elements of the project affecting the school community as the project continues.
Frequently asked questions
How long will this project take?
The upgrade is expected to be completed by mid 2025. Weather and other external influences can have a significant impact on project timelines and all changes to the project schedule will be published on this page - under Work Schedule.
My child attends One Tree Hill Primary School what can I expect?
During construction, there will be changes to the way you usually park for school drop-off and pick-up. The areas that will be closed off and unavailable are highlighted on the provided map. Signage indicating these closures will be placed in areas before the closures happen to notify the community.
Access to the school gates will not change during the upgrade, although you can expect some delays and the area being generally busier. We suggest adding another few minutes to your usual drop-off and pick-up time, especially if you usually arrive at peak time.
I use the oval regularly, what do I need to know?
There will always be green space on the oval open to visitors. You can expect changes to the way you usually park, enter and exit the oval. The gravel carpark near the tennis courts will be closed while we upgrade the space into a formal carpark.
Due to the nature of the project and its impending closures, we expect there will be some inconvenience and we appreciate your patience during the construction while we deliver these improvements to the community.
What about the tenant clubs?
Council will communicate directly with a key contact at each club via email updates about any temporary relocation and alternate arrangements.
The arrangements are as follows:
- OTH Soccer Junior teams will relocate to Uley Reserve for training and games to align with the senior teams
- OTH Cricket to relocate to Uley Reserve for training in the cricket nets and games to be played at the eastern end of Uley Oval.
- OTH Tennis Club to relocate to The Playford Tennis Centre for training and matches.
