New touchless pedestrian buttons an appropriate step towards better managing community health and safety.

The City of Playford has installed touchless pedestrian buttons at Elizabeth Way near Mountbatten Square, as a measure to prevent the spread of germs in our community.

The new touchless Pedestrian buttons work by waving your hand in front of a sensor instead of having to touch it.

Pedestrians using the crossing for the first time commented on the ease and practicality of the touchless system, remarking “that was easy” and “great idea”.

Council looked into this during COVID and they’re now a part of the Australian Traffic Signal Standards.

As we have all become a lot more diligent with our hand washing and hand hygiene the contactless system is an appropriate step towards better managing community health and safety.

Push buttons will be replaced in accordance with our replacement schedule, however any faulty/damaged pushbuttons reported will be instantly replaced with the touchless sensors.
