- Apply for May Graham-Turner Aboriginal Education Scholarship now!
For the fourth year running, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are eligible to apply for the May Graham-Turner Aboriginal Education Scholarship to help provide financial support to cover the costs associated with study and training.
The $1000 scholarship can be used towards education at any South Australian University, TAFE SA or South Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO), further helping to pave the way to higher education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Playford.
There has never been a more important time to provide financial support to those seeking higher education and this scholarship supports students to pay for student fees, travel expenses, equipment, software, childcare, stationery, tools, uniforms and textbooks.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty encourages eligible Playford residents to apply for the scholarship and take hold of this opportunity to begin their higher education studies or access support to continue with their current studies.
“This opportunity can help alleviate some of the costs associated with studying and help scholarship recipients focus on training to build their future, use their new-found skills to benefit the community and achieve their dreams,” Mayor Docherty said.
“The City of Playford is dedicated to providing pathways to make higher education more accessible. By supporting the May Graham-Turner Aboriginal Education Scholarship, we hope to see even more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people tackle new training and study opportunities.”
The scholarship is named in honour of Kaurna woman and well-known Playford local, May Graham-Turner, to help increase career opportunities for people in the area. Aunty May Graham-Turner was committed to the Playford community by caring for others through her work at the Lyell McEwin Hospital. Aunty May brought laughter and hope to the sick and terminally ill. The scholarship is to honour Aunty May and carry on her legacy.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must reside in the City of Playford, identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and be enrolled as a full-time student at any South Australian university, a vocational training course at TAFE SA or South Australian (RTO).
Applications for the May Graham Turner Aboriginal Education Scholarship are open until 5pm, Friday 4 April 2025.
