Central District premiership scores prime spot on Bulldogs' roundabout

2023 SANFLW premiers, Central District Football Club, have been recognised for their historic victory, with the premiership added to the Bulldogs’ roundabout sign at Elizabeth South.

The match took place in June 2023 against South Adelaide at Prospect Oval, where in front of 3,000 people, the Doggies snatched a three-point win with the last kick of the game.

The inclusion of the women’s premiership on the sign – which features the men’s nine SANFL premierships from the 2000s – means the roundabout is now a true reflection of the success of the popular Elizabeth-based club.

The first premiership win by the Bulldog’s women’s team is something that should not only be acknowledged, but celebrated,” said Mayor Glenn Docherty.

This recognition validates the dedication and skill of the players and sends a powerful message to the next generation of young, female footy players about what they can achieve.

“We hope to add more premiership wins to the sign in future – for both the women’s and men’s sides.”

Central District Football Club Chief Executive Officer, Greg Edwards, said that he is delighted to see the success of the women’s program recognised.

“We are really excited at having our SANFLW premiership added to the Bulldogs’ roundabout sign. It really brings our women’s program and its success into the wider community to be recognised and admired,” Greg said.

“We are one club and it’s important that our achievements across our male and female programs are equally celebrated and this addition certainly delivers on that.

“We sincerely thank the Mayor Glenn Docherty and his team at the City of Playford for their continued support of our club, and for celebrating our women’s premiership through this Bulldogs’ roundabout addition.”

City of Playford is a premier partner of the club and this support has extended into significant investment by Council into the club’s facilities and amenities including new unisex changerooms, oval fencing, scoreboard upgrades and improved oval lighting. In 2023, Council led the dedication of the Kris Grant Stand, recognising the four-decade long dedication Kris provided to the club.
