- Free fun for families at JMC Open Day
One of Playford’s central community hubs will open its doors for an Open Day to showcase its programs, services and facilities, helping the community to celebrate its positive impact on residents’ health and wellbeing.
On Saturday December 14, visitors will gain insight into John McVeity Centre’s diverse offerings, including community development activities and fitness programs.
To help foster relationships and build new connections within the community, from 10am until 2pm visitors will have the opportunity to deepen their engagement at JMC through a range of fun activities.
Mayor Glenn Docherty is delighted the centre has continued to thrive and remain a place for the Playford community to enjoy recreational activities.
“This Open Day is about bringing everyone together in a place we all love to spend time having fun and meeting new people. I urge the community to check out the range of activities which are lined up for the day,” Mayor Docherty said.
“It is equally important that this facility exists in our community to continue providing access to beneficial community connection programs.”
JMC has remained a space for recreation, learning and connection for many years and to celebrate its 10-year anniversary since being redeveloped, visitors can watch a slideshow about its history, including information about former Mayor John McVeity’s contribution to the community and why the centre is named after him.
A Toy Swap will also be held from 11am until 1pm and the community can get involved by registering through Eventbrite. Simply drop off a toy and collect your ticket swap for toys. This is a chance to pass on outgrown toys and find new ones. To participate, four gently used toys can be swapped for tokens.
There will be plenty for everyone to enjoy, with a long list of Come and Try Activities and Stalls at the Open Day, including Pickleball SA, Sensory Magic with Ebony, Saber Academy, Community Fitness Challenges, Science Activities, Chatty Café, Healthy Food Co – Easy Meal Tastings and Sensory Chillout Space.
The Kids Zone is packed with interesting activities to keep younger visitors happy, with Maggie Moo Music, Play Gym, Kids Zumba and Christmas Colouring, as well as a free sausage sizzle, jumping castle, face painting and live music.
