- Fringe frenzy in Playford starts Friday
The heart of Elizabeth is set to beat a little faster, with the Adelaide Fringe bringing an impressive lineup of shows and activations to the city centre.
Aside from Fringe@Playford, Prince George Plaza is also set to become its own mini garden of unearthly delights, with food trucks, roving entertainment and musicians filling the square for the inaugural Fringe Fridays.
Mayor Glenn Docherty said with an expanding community, it is important to create new and exciting opportunities for families to engage with the creative arts industry.
“Building these opportunities is an important part of what we do. We want to see local families engaged in vibrant events in their own area and Fringe @ Playford is providing this and more. We’ve secured some of Australia’s best stage talent at our local venues!”
The Playford community wants to see more events, more often across the city and Mayor Docherty believes this year’s Fringe events showcase Playford’s commitment to delivering this to residents.
“Our city is a place built through connection and accessing Fringe entertainment provides a new opportunity to explore these connections within the community,” Mayor Docherty said.
The Family-friendly event ‘Fringe Fridays’ will kick off on 21 February and will run until 21 March, with food truck options galore from 6pm to 9pm across the four weeks.
There will be family-friendly food options, including scrumptious menus from GG potato yiros, Melissi Greek donuts, Aussie Asian, Yiros Hub, Mr Fodder Dessert and Potato Stick.
Live entertainment will also feature at Fringe Fridays and showcase the talent of Push Duo Adelaide, Leah Tait and Lucas Day, and many more talented artists.
Fringe enthusiasts will have access to plenty of extra entertainment on Fridays, with Bubbloe Woman & Balloon Twisters, Bavo Basketball juggler and a snake charmer taking turns each week to rove the Plaza providing the community with plenty to see!
Playford Grenville Hub, Civic Centre Library, The Shedley Theatre and outdoor activations at Prince George Plaza will provide Fringe shows for all ages, including affordable shows and free entertainment throughout February and March.
Adelaide Fringe chief executive officer Heather Croall is thrilled to see Fringe @ Playford bring world-class entertainment and vibrant community celebrations to the northern suburbs.
“Adelaide Fringe is all about making the arts accessible to everyone and initiatives such as Fringe Fridays at Elizabeth is a fantastic way to bring the joy of Fringe to new audiences,” Ms Croall said.
“Seeing such a strong arts community gather in The City of Playford to participate in Fringe is representative of this festival truly overtaking the entire state. We can’t wait to see the community come together to enjoy the incredible lineup of performances, family-friendly activities and that signature atmosphere that only Fringe can bring."
Fringe @ Playford’s lineup of live shows kicks off on Saturday, 15 February with one of the nation’s most beloved performers and radio co-hosts, Tommy Little.
