The City of Playford's library service is set to bring smiles to children’s faces with the return of its 13th consecutive year of Give the Gift of Reading (GTGOR).

As part of AnglicareSA’s Christmas hamper drive, GTGOR aims to promote literacy and the joy of reading throughout the community while providing Playford’s young people with a memorable and magical start to the festive season.

Each year, AnglicareSA delivers Christmas gift hampers to hundreds of disadvantaged individuals and families across the region. Mayor Glenn Docherty welcomed the return of GTGOR for its 13th year.

"Give the Gift of Reading provides our community with an opportunity to make a difference," said Mayor Glenn Docherty.

"For over a decade, our community has embraced GTGOR, whether through generous book donations or by connecting with others at handover celebrations in Playford’s libraries," the Mayor continued. "Since 2012, Give the Gift of Reading has collected nearly 10,000 books—a milestone we hope to reach this year. I encourage everyone to participate in this year’s drive."

Community members who would like to donate a new book for a young person, teenager, or adult can visit:

  • Playford Civic Centre Library | 10 Playford Boulevard, Elizabeth
  • Stretton Centre Library | 307 Peachey Road, Munno Para
  • Playford’s Mobile Library Service
  • Elizabeth Rise Community Centre | Shop 7/26 Hamblynn Road, Elizabeth Downs
  • John McVeity Centre | 182 Peachey Road, Smithfield Plains

Donations will be accepted until Sunday, 15 December. A handover celebration will take place at the Playford Civic Centre Library on Monday, 16 December, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm to recognise our community’s contributions throughout the campaign.
