- Increased flexibility and access at Council centres
Providing the community with increased access to services and programs at the Playford Civic Centre and Grenville Hub is currently being trialed by the City of Playford.
The trial, which will continue until June 30, is aimed at providing more opportunities for the community to access Council services and programs outside of regular business hours.
Playford Civic Centre Library is opening until 9pm on Tuesday evenings, with the Grenville Hub offering after hours programs during the trial period.
“As a growing city we need to look at the different ways people in our community want to access our programs and services,” said City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty.
“Across society, there is growing demand for flexibility in accessing business, retail and community services at a time that suits you. People want options that fit in with their busy lifestyles. This means providing opportunities that fall outside the traditional nine to five model.
“This trial is taking place at two of our popular venues with the aim of providing spaces, services and programs at times that best meet the needs of the community.”
The Playford Civic Centre Library is currently open until 9pm on Tuesday nights as part of the trial, which adds to other afterhours opening times already in place, including Thursdays (10am to 7pm), Saturdays (10am to 2pm) and Sundays (1pm to 4pm).
The library, as well as spaces in the Great Hall, provide quiet areas where people can study, work, read or simply enjoy quiet contemplation. Services such as free WiFi, computer access and printing facilities are available.
Library One cardholders can check out books and other resources using the self-serve checkout. The site will be unstaffed during the trial period, with security measures in place to ensure the safety and security of visitors.
“We know that people value access to the study areas and equipment at the library,” said the Mayor. “Being open after hours allows students to access these study spaces at times that are convenient for them, like after school, TAFE or uni.”
The much-loved Grenville Hub, the city’s over-50s activity centre, is also holding after hours events during the trial period.
“We want as many people as possible to be able to take part in our programs and events,” the Mayor said. “We know people are working later in life and have increasing family commitments during the day, so offering events outside of traditional hours makes sense.”
The Grenville afterhours events range from a trivia night, an art class and folk music concerts.
“Council regularly looks at ways to adjust or improve our services to ensure we are meeting the needs of our community. This trial is one way of understanding if extended opening hours is something the community wants to see more of,” said the Mayor.
Data and feedback will be collected during the trial to better understand how the community would like to access Council spaces and services moving forward.
