- Libraries SA launches Firstival, a new state-wide festival.
From learning about virtual reality to a literacy experience with live celloists, this year’s inaugural Firstival encourages South Australians to try something new, with over 300 experiences set to be rolled out across the State’s network of over 130 public libraries.
Firstival kicks off on Saturday 1 July, with a month-long calendar of unique events hosted by individual public libraries across South Australia.
The festival program includes experiences for those of all ages, and runs for the month of July, which includes the school holidays, providing a huge range of activities for families this winter.
Public Libraries Association of SA (PLSA) Damian Garcia said Firstival launches with a jam-packed program focused on trying something new at a local library.
“Libraries SA is proud to deliver a unique program of events, across the month of July, which encourages all South Australians to seek new experiences and connect with their local library in ways they never have before,” said Mr Garcia.
“From augmented reality sessions to cooking workshops and even a Harry Potter inspired Hogwarts escape room experience, there really is something for everyone across the Firstival program,”
Avid library user, Meg Bailey, Gawler West, is excited to attend Firstival events with her family at their local library.
“We love coming to the library. There is so much available for our child to enjoy. I am really looking forward to Firstival and want to know everything that is happening in the libraries”. Ms Bailey discusses.
“Libraries have had such a positive impact on our child, when attending sessions and events it has really grown their independence and ability to socialise with other children in a welcoming environment”.
Firstival will be held from Saturday 1 July 2023 until Monday 31 July 2023, with a program of unique, free and low-cost events at each of the state’s 130 public libraries.
