- Park upgrades in full swing across Playford
The City of Playford is delivering upgrades across a range of parks and reserves in Elizabeth, Davoren Park and Munno Para, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining highquality, accessible open spaces across the city.
Construction commenced in March at Virgo Street Reserve in Elizabeth South and Barrow Crescent Reserve in Elizabeth Vale, with the spaces expected to be transformed by the end of June.
The upgrades have been guided by input from local residents who participated in community engagement activities during the planning phase, to make sure the improvements reflect how people want to use these outdoor spaces.
The parks will include a range of playground equipment including an accessible basket swing at each site, as well as nature play features and lawn areas. Elements including new paths, shelter with picnic setting and landscaping will complement the play spaces.
Mayor Glenn Docherty said open spaces are an important part of the city’s landscape.
“Council understands how important it is to invest in our much-loved parks, especially in our established suburbs,” the Mayor said. “These upgrades are about making sure our open spaces continue to meet the needs of the community. The improvements have been shaped by local feedback and will ensure our outdoor spaces are welcoming, functional, and enjoyable.”
In Davoren Park, upgrade works to Sandford Reserve were completed last week. This reserve has undergone a transformation into a quiet green space with additional trees andseating. The nearby Pete Smith Reserve was upgraded last year, featuring larger play equipment and a basketball ring designed to cater to both play and sports.
Barry Warren Reserve in Elizabeth Downs, recently renamed in honour of the local sporting legend, will be receiving a second stage of upgrades, with older play equipment being replaced in May. This follows a first round of improvements that were completed in 2024, including the addition of a new bike track which is proving popular with the community.
“Parks and playgrounds are some of our most popular facilities, providing accessible spaces for people to meet and socialise,” the Mayor added.
This month, works will commence at Town Park in Munno Para, located next to the Stretton Centre library, on a significant upgrade to this popular play space.
The works are expected to be completed in time for the mid-year school holidays, with new features including an all-abilities carousel, music-play equipment and modifications to the existing play mound on the way.
“These upgrades are all about making our parks even better places for people to connect, relax and enjoy,” the Mayor said. “Council is committed to investing in spaces that matter to the community, and I am sure people will enjoy the improvements across the city.”
