- Playford community groups receive funding boost
Fourteen community organisations and sporting groups have been selected as recipients of the City of Playford’s Community Development Grants and Financial Support Program.
These most recent financial streams provide non-profit community organisations, local groups and associations support to deliver innovative or new opportunities for the Playford community, to help encourage cultural development, physical activity, health and wellbeing.
The Financial Support Program round opened in July and closed in August, with 18 projects assessed and six successful recipients offered the opportunity to bring their projects to fruition.
This category within the Community Support and Grant Program offers financial support to eligible community organisations with a project that aims to increase social inclusion and promote better outcomes for residents. Applications can include start-up funding, financial support for day-to-day operations or funding for a new program within a current service.
This year’s recipients are Playford Winter Shelter – $10,000 for a portable shower, Operation Flinders Foundation – $30,000 (over 2 years) for up to 20 young people from Playford to take part in its program, Munno Para Little Athletics – $3500 for timing gates and docket printer, Elizabeth Life Saving Club – $2200 for participant registration software.
Adelaide Community Basketball Association received $96,000 across three years to bring its Northern Basketball Pathway Program to the area, which will open opportunities for local youth to participate in four programs, including Basketball Australia’s Ford Aussie Hoops Program.
Hands of Hope Foundation received $57,000 across three years to deliver an 8-week Trauma Recovery Program, including courses Women Are Strong, Standing Strong and Bringing Up Great Kids – After Family Violence, to provide support for women and children impacted by family domestic violence.
Playford’s Community Development Grants round opened in August and closed in September, receiving 13 applications with eight successful community organisations announced in November.
Successful recipients are Northern Areas Men’s Softball Club - $2500 to assist with the 2025 Junior State Softball Championships at Ridley Reserve in Elizabeth, Playford City Baseball Club - $3800 for its Winter Baseball Academy for young people, Bhutanese Magar Cultural Community of South Australia - $4800 for its community anniversary event, Bhutanese Nepalese Christian Community of Australia - $5000 to support a Christmas celebration, Elizabeth Vale Soccer Club – $5000 for a 2025 season launch event and Playford Uniting Church - $4000 to support its Christmas Festival.
Golgotha Uniting Church received $5000 to go toward hosting its annual youth conference and Central Districts Softball Association received $2500 to provide portable toilets at the Junior State Softball Championships in February next year.
These grants open twice a year for funding up to $5000, the next round opens in February 2025.
