- Playford’s Youth Action Crew seeks new members
Playford’s Youth Action Crew (YAC) are a small and mighty team who are calling on more young people across Playford to come and join the call.
The YAC is made up of young people who develop actions and responses to challenges facing young people in Playford.
One of the first projects the group is working on is “Bug Out Bags” - back packs containing essential hygiene items to help young people who may be doing it tough.
20 Bug out Bags have been assembled by the group members and will be distributed to local services and City of Playford sites to be given to young people in need.
YAC member Izzabella says the idea for the Bug out Bags came from seeing their own friends going through challenges.
“We decided that that we should give them some supplies they might need, so we came up with a bag with necessities,” said Izzabella. “We’ve been given a chance to have a voice and we are taking advantage of that.”
Another YAC member, Kristie said that having more young members onboard will mean more ideas are generated.
“We all come up with different ideas, but the more ideas from others the better,” said Kristie.
Anyone aged 13-18 who lives in the Playford Council area is eligible to join the YAC.
City of Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said that this is a group making real change.
“From the Bug Out Bags project we can see that these young people are ready to make a tangible difference in our community,” said Mayor Docherty.
“I would encourage young people in Playford to consider getting on board with this group so that we can hear different ideas and viewpoints and bring initiatives to young people that are meaningful.”
The YAC meets every Monday night from 4:30pm-6:00pm at the Northern Sound System. Refreshments are provided.
