- Sharing the McGilp master plan
An upgrade of McGilp Recreation Park has been part of Council’s planning for more than ten years and according to Mayor Glenn Docherty, the master plan comes after learning about what the community wanted to see improved in the township.
“In 2010, we asked the One Tree Hill community what they wanted to see improved in their town, as part of the Urban Design Framework project,” the Mayor said.
“Through this process, the interests of residents and land and business owners were captured. It was clear that the community wanted to see long-term improvements at McGilp so the space would continue to cater for different sports, activities and ages.”
Since then, Council has worked with local sports clubs to understand their specific needs and has listened to broader community concerns in relation to stormwater management and car parking at McGilp.
“This community input has been vital to understanding what needs to feature in an upgrade and has informed the development of the McGilp Recreation Park Master Plan,” said Mayor Docherty.
“We are delighted to inform the community of our progress, sharing the design and our plan to deliver the upgrade.”
The State Government has contributed $1.5 million grant funding in support of the upgrade. This has allowed Council to progress the project through its 2022/23 Annual Business Plan, with Council allocating a further $1.5 million.
“This means that designs will be finalised throughout 2022/23, with construction occurring across 2023/24,” said Mayor Docherty.
The upgrade includes:
- Extension of the oval to allow for junior and senior soccer matches
- Infrastructure improvements including oval drainage, stormwater and irrigation upgrades
- Formalised footpaths, carparking spaces and traffic management
- Tennis court resurfacing
- New changerooms
- Informal play area with new bike track
“There are some specific parts of the design, such as the design of the new changerooms, that require more planning, and we’ll work with relevant sporting clubs to provide them with an opportunity to inform these specific aspects of the upgrade.”
City of Playford staff will be at the One Tree Hill Markets on Saturday 03 December to answer questions about the project. More information is available at Playford.engagementhub.com.au
