- Wellness Reserve supports health vision
Mofflin Health and Wellness Reserve in Elizabeth Vale has received a $2M boost thanks the State Government’s Open Space Grant Program.
The reserve is nestled in the city’s health precinct adjacent to the Lyell McEwin Hospital, which provides services to a diverse range of people living, working and visiting the area.
Mayor Glenn Docherty said the upgrade will encourage physical activity, as well as rest and recuperation to complement growing health services nearby.
“Mofflin Reserve has the potential to be a connector to all of the surrounding amenities and become the heart of Elizabeth Vale,” Mayor Docherty said.
Council will contribute $2.5M to see over $4.5M spent on the upgrade of Mofflin Reserve, reinvigorating this underutilised space.
Community engagement on the reserve upgrade will commence in the coming months.
“We will be consulting with our community as to what they would like to see in this space to make sure we are meeting their growing needs,” Mayor Docherty said.
It is proposed that the upgrade will feature a walking and running loop track, playspace including a ninja course and all-abilities equipment, fitness node, therapeutic garden, landscaping, on-street parking, as well as public lighting and a toilet block.
“The underutilised reserve will be transformed into a destination park with recreation facilities to service the immediate and wider community,” Mayor Docherty said. “We want to create safe and nurturing environments for our residents and visitors with a space available to walk, sit, be active and strengthen community connections.”
