Works have started to transform the southern section of Mofflin Reserve in Elizabeth Vale into a recreational activity and play space.

The $4.6M development is integral to the Playford Health Precinct and has been designed with healthcare workers and hospital visitors in mind given the site’s proximity to the Lyell McEwin Hospital.

The upgrade features a large nature play area, a walking and running loop track, all abilities fitness equipment, a therapeutic garden and climbing elements. Quiet areas for rest and recuperation will also be included in the upgrade to complement nearby health services.

Public toilets, lighting, and on and off-street parking are among the additional elements included following community feedback received in February 2022.

Council received $2M from the State Government’s Open Space Grant Program to support the upgrade of Mofflin Reserve.

Mayor Glenn Docherty said this investment takes Mofflin Reserve to another level in supporting Playford’s diverse community.

“The reserve will cater for a variety of needs with the upgrade enhancing the already popular sportsgrounds in the northern part of the reserve,” Mayor Docherty said.

“Visitors, patients and health care workers will now have a place to retreat to for fresh air, light exercise and natural surroundings – enhancing the overall experience of our health precinct.

“Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback on the space. We know high quality and well-designed play spaces are highly valued by our community and are recognised as important assets.”

Temporary fencing has recently been erected around the site located on Oldham Road to safely deliver the project. Construction is expected to be completed in late October 2023.
