- Parks, Reserves and Playgrounds
The City of Playford has over 1,000 hectares of open space, consisting of playgrounds, parks, sports reserves and trails through and around our suburbs. The parks are well-used and appreciated by the community, gaining high ratings in Council's community surveys.
On-Leash
Dogs On Leash areas require a dog to be secured by a leash no longer than two metres in length. These areas include:
- Any park or reserve during times when organised sport is being played
- Within five metres of children’s playground equipment
- Any wetland area
- Any local government land or public place that the Council determines to be an On-Leash area
On-Leash with Exceptions
Some reserves have a requirement for dogs being on-leash in certain areas (see first three dot points above), but may be off-leash in the remainder of the space.
Off-Leash
Dogs are allowed off-leash in these areas, provided they are under effective control by means of voice commands, the dog remains in close proximity of the person, and the person being able to see the dog at all times.
Dog Parks
Dog exercise areas (Dog Parks) are off-leash areas where owners are required to maintain effective control of their dog while in that area.
Dog Free Areas
Dog Free areas prohibit the presence of dogs unless the dog is an Assistance Dog.
Please DO NOT feed the ducks at parks, reserves and playgrounds in the City of Playford.
Native ducks and other birds that live on water stay healthy by eating foods like aquatic plants, seeds, grasses and insects.
Many foods that humans like to eat, including bread, can be harmful to native ducks and birds and can make them sick. Uneaten food can also contaminate the water and encourage vermin and foxes to the area.
Rather than feeding the ducks, there are other ways you can enjoy them in their native habitat, such as:
- Count the ducks that you can see
- Identify other bird species
- Help look after their environment by picking up rubbish
Smoking is banned within 10 metres of children’s playground equipment in a public place. Fines for smoking in these areas is a $75 expiation fee, with a maximum fine of $200.
