Burning Permit Online Application
Burning permits are now available for the season between May and October (dates subject to change each year).
This online application does not constitute a permit once submitted. Applicants will only receive a permit once a City of Playford Authorised Officer has processed, reviewed and approved a permit. Permits are only sent via email.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF CONDITIONS
CONDITIONS FOR A PERMIT
Pursuant to Section 6 of the Environment Protection (Air Quality) Policy 2016 a person must not cause or permit the burning of matter by a fire in the open on any private premises without written consent given under this clause by the Authority or a council or council officer as delegate of the Authority. The following conditions apply to the permit:
- only burn between the hours of 10am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday. NB: Burning on Sundays and Public Holidays is prohibited.
- for dead tree litter or prunings - create piles of a maximum 3m x 3m x 2m size
- for almond tree – create a 50 tree heap (maximum)
- notify your neighbours prior to the day of burn
- place materials to be burnt in a position that allows for a four-metre clearance around and over the fire
- ensure all piles to be burnt are not in close proximity to other flammable materials including grass and logs
- burn one pile at a time, to ensure that you retain control of each burn
- have appropriate working fire control equipment on standby
- extinguish the fire immediately if smoke or odour is causing a nuisance on another person’s property
- stay within the direct vicinity of the immediate burn site if smoke or smoulder is coming off of the burn
- ensure the fire is completely extinguished on the completion of the burn.
- council reserves the right to grant or refuse any application at the Authorised Officer‘s discretion.
- only dry cured material can be burnt, NO green grass, leaves or garden waste. NO treated wood, plastics, rubber, poly or similar material is to be burnt.
- permits do not give exemption to light a fire during Fire Danger Season or on Total Fire Ban Days. Permits are void after start of declared Fire Danger Season in District.
- a sufficient number of persons to control the fire must be present at the site of the fire from the time it is lighted to the time it is completely extinguished.
